Analyzing data from a series of nationwide polls, this new report from PIPA, the Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland, finds that a majority of Bush supporters believe things about the world that are objectively untrue, while the majority of Kerry supporters dwell in the reality-based community. For example, Bush backers largely think that the president and his policies are popular internationally. Seventy-five percent believe that Iraq was providing "substantial" aid to al-Qaida, and 63 percent say clear evidence of this has been found.

BAMAKO IS A MIRACLE by Samuel Chalard
Playing Sunday 11.07.04 at the Quad Cinema, 3 PM:
The SWISSAMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL will be playing this film... I'm in it... I was there...
Roswell Rudd, the greatest free-jazz trombone player, comes to Bamako, Mali, for one month to play Thelonious Monk to griots from Bamako. On the African side, Toumani Diabaté, genius of the Kora (African harp), teaches his African melodies. "Bamako is a miracle" reveals the backdoor of fusion processes through the recording of a CD with producer Verna Gillis - who launched Salif Keita and Youssou N'Dour. The film shows how much the musical creation puts you always on the edge with the obvious conflicts and also the magic of a two cultures merging.

Erol Josue - Caribbean / Haitian Music
10pm

Admission $20
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haitian Erol Josue is a singer/songwriter/choreographer who grew up in his family's Vodou temple. Growing up inside this world of sacred music and ritual did not, however, isolate him from other music. His father's collection of classic Jazz as well as the American and French music streaming over the airwaves of Radio Metropol, exposed him to a diverse array of international artists. By the time Erol was 17, he was already a Vodou priest, or Houngan, and had a profound understanding of how dance and music and ritual blended to create an experience that is truly a revolution, for body, and soul. Today he cites Bjork and Maxwell as contemporary influences and has created an approach that integrates his function as a "spirit diva" with the club dance floor, and the car radio. Erol’s Satalla performance is the New York debut of his latest project, Regleman, which refers to the language, gestures, rituals and protocol of Vodou.

The Brazilian Muse: More than just Forró next Wednesday at Guernica

"Extreme democracy" is a political philosophy of the information era that puts people in charge of the entire political process. It suggests a deliberative process that places total confidence in the people, opening the policy-making process to many centers of power through deeply networked coalitions that can be organized around local, national and international issues. The choice of the word "extreme" reflects the lessons of the extreme programming movement in technology that has allowed small teams to make rapid progress on complex projects through concentrated projects that yield results far greater than previous labor-intensive programming practices. Extreme democracy emphasizes the importance of tools designed to break down barriers to collaboration and access to power, acknowledging that political realities can be altered by building on rapidly advancing generations of technology and that human organizations are transformed by new political expectations and practices made possible by technology.
