I recommend the PBS documentary Mailer on Mailer (2000) - I haven't read any of Norman Mailer's books, but now I feel I have a much better sense of the man - the incredibly lucid 77-year-old Mailer talks about his career, and takes us through the last 40 some years of America's history along the way... now I have some serious reading to do...
